Martha speaks to The Sun

Today’s edition of The Sun boasts a long interview with Freema Agyeman on playing new companion Martha Jones. She talks about how she scraped a living at a video rental store while she tried to find acting parts and how she was invited into auditions for Doctor Who by being told it was a role on BBC3’s Torchwood.

The Sun reports her comments on taking over from companion Rose. "Billie did a good job, so fair play to her. That character was extremely popular in people’s hearts and quite rightly so," says Freema. "But the writer, Russell T Davies, has kind of made it easy as the characters are so different. And you can’t really compare apples and pears."

The new series of Doctor Who starts on BBC1 on Saturday 31 March at 7pm. The current issue of SFX serves up a tasty interview with Russell the T himself, and next issue (on sale Wednesday 11 April) you can read a four-page exclusive interview with Freema. Don’t forget, you’ll also want to look out for the SFX Doctor Who special (SFX Collection 28, fact fans) on sale Wednesday 28 March, which has detailed episode guides for the previous series of New Who, and comes with a free Doctor Who novel.
