Torchwood Writer To Recreate Camelot

Chris Chibnall to write a contemporary tale on the Arthurian Legend for the producers of The Tudors

Former Torchwood showrunner (for seasons one and two) Chris Chibnall is writing a 10-part series updating Arthurian legends to the modern day for US cable network Starz, according to The Hollywood Reporter .

The show, to be called Camelot, is described as “the universal story of Camelot on a global scale”. It will be a US,/UK/Ireland/Canada co-production produced by Oscar winner producer Graham King ( Edge Of Darkness , The Aviator , Gangs Of New York ) and the team behind The Tudors , Morgan O'Sullivan and Michael Hirst.

“The story of Arthur isn’t history, it’s mythology, and Camelot isn’t a place but an idea of hope that has resonated at different times throughout history,” says Starz boss Chris Albrecht, before going on to describe Camelot as, “a highly entertaining and distinctly original TV program that fits in perfectly with our lineup.” Starz, which has recently been increasing its original drama output, is also responsible for Spartacus: Blood And Sand and the upcoming Ken Follett adaptation The Pillars Of The Earth .

Casting is underway, with filming due to take place in Ireland (which is where A Game Of Thrones is also being filmed, and also where Arthurian flick Exclibur was shot), and post production in Canada
