Merlins Mordred Offered Lead In Enders Game

Asa Butterfield on the brink of starring in the film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s seminal SF novel

Asa Butterfield, who starred as the hauntingly-eyed young Mordred in the BBC’s Merlin, has been offered the lead role in director Gavin ( X-Men: Origins ) Hood’s big screen adaptation of the classic SF novel Ender’s Game , claims Deadline .

Butterfield’s career is currently taking off big time – he will soon be seen starring in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo opposite Hit Girl herself, Chloe Moretz.

The Hugo award winning Ender’s Game was first published in 1985 (though based on an earlier 1977 short story) and is set in a future where Earth is at war with aliens, and children are being trained as soldiers using an advanced simulation game. Ender Wiggins – the role that will go to Butterfield if he accepts – proves to be one the most gifted players ever discovered.

Lost and Star Trek ’s Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing, and the film is currently scheduled to be released on 13 March 2013.
