Syfy Greenlights New Ron Moore Series, Helix

Syfy has given 13-episode order to a new sci-fi series created by Ron Moore ( Battlestar Galactica ), currently going by the working title Helix , reports ComicBookMovie ,

The green light was announced today by Mark Stern, president of original content at Syfy. The series will be produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Helix is described as an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation.

As IO9 has pointed out , it sounds a lot like the Moore’s rejected pitch for The Thing remake. The pilot script, however, has been written by Cameron Porsandeh, who will also serve as co-executive Producer, so it’s probably just a coincidence.

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn’t be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life,” said Mark Stern

Helix could be ready to debut later this year.
