Why new Who companion looks familiar

March will see the return of Doctor Who, and the debut of new companion Martha Jones, played by Freema Agyeman. But it's not Freema's debut, since she first appeared in a small role as a Torchwood employee who came a cropper at the hands of the Cybermen. "How", fretted Who fans "Will they explain away the fact that Martha looks exactly like someone the Doctor's met before?"

All is explained in a new Who book, Made of Steel, written by Terrance Dicks. It's out on 1 March which, weirdly, makes it our first encounter with Martha! And 42 pages in Martha lets the cat out of the bag: "My cousin - Adeola. She worked at Torchwood Tower. She never came home after... I just wondered if you might have seen her. She looked a bit like me."

So there you go. It was the obvious way to explain it away, really. But at least now we can put away all those worries that Martha might be, I dunno, a clone or a killer fembot with machine-gun boobs.

Mind you, the more you think about it, the more suspicious it seems. I mean, identical twins, yes - but who has an identical cousin? Maybe it's all the result of an evil alien DNA-tampering scheme...
