Patrick Stewart to be Oxford lecturer

Oxford University has announced that the new Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor Of Contemporary Theatre at St Catherine's College will be none other than Captain Picard himself, Patrick "Professor X" Stewart.

With his lectures to kick off in April, Stewart says: "I am honoured, delighted, thrilled to bits and tickled pink."

The visiting professorship role has previously been filled by theatre, TV and cinema folk including Stephen Sondheim, Alan Ayckbourn, Diana Rigg and Tim Rice. Hailing originally from Mirfield in West Yorkshire, Stewart has already been the Chancellor of Huddersfield University.

Our advice to Professor Stewart's future students: we do not think you should go to lectures dressed in your Next Gen jumpsuits and say, "Aye, captain!" every time he sets homework.
