A mini series for Sci Fi based on the Hugo Award-winning Neal Stephenson novel The Diamond Age finally looks like it's moving ahead, with the announcement that a scriptwriter has been hired to do the adaptation.
The book, which came out in 1995, is set in a nanotech age of plenty. A streetwise tearaway from a South China slum steals a book to give it to his sister Nell. Called A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer, it begins to shape her life, even creating a Virtual Reality Fairy Tale to teach her life lesson. Meanwhile the inventor of the book is having problems of his own. The glowing SFX review at the time said, “violence, adventure, sex, serious hardware and an intriguing plot - it's all here, and it makes an excellent story."
The script will be written by Zoe Green, whose other credits include the screenplays for two upcoming movies – Disney’s Tigress (based on a character created by Stan Lee, so it’s not A Kung Fu Panda spin-off, then) and the fantasy Book of Shadows for director Rob Reiner.
