Calista Flockhart joins Supergirl TV series

Former Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart is set for a return to the small screen. The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, which today announced that the actress has signed on to appear as Kara Zor-El’s boss in CBS’ forthcoming superhero TV series, Supergirl.

Based on the DC Comics property, the show will revolve around Clarke Kent’s cousin - Krypton-born Kara Zor-El - who finds herself in the adoptive care of the Danvers family. As she learns to embrace her extraordinary powers, she becomes a protector of her new city and is soon dubbed Supergirl.

Flockhart will join Whiplash star Melissa Benoist - who snagged the title role - as Kara’s workplace superior, Cat Grant. She’s described by the outlet as “the self-made media magnate and founder of CatCo. Cat started her career as a reporter and has built her company into a global powerhouse.”

Also locked in to star are Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Laura Benanti as Kara’s mother.

By joining the cast, Flockhart will be reunited with her Brothers And Sisters executive producer Greg Berlanti, who’s also responsible for two other DC TV spinoffs, The Flash and Arrow. Berlanti will serve as executive producer and writer on the show along with Ali Adler.

Supergirl is expected to go into production shortly.
