Transformers II Opens To Huge Business

Despite so-so reviews, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is on its way to becoming one of the top five-day openings of all time at the worldwide box office.

The sequel scored the second best ever box office haul for a Wednesday opening in the States, with $60.6 million, beaten only by The Dark Knight’s $67.2 million. Early estimates are that it accumulated another $27 million Stateside on Thursday. In other territories, the film has already amassed a massive $59 million in 58 countries on Wednesday, putting the worldwide tally at a hefty $146.6 million in less than a week. So, it may or may not beat The Dark Knight, but trade papers like Variety are still safe saying it's going to be a record-breaking opening… because it'll be the best five-day haul for a film opening on a Wednesday in a June in the Chinese Year Of The Ox that begins with the letter T. Or something.
