Joss Whedon wanted Daredevil to be a movie

With a second series already greenlit, Daredevil has been an unmitigated success for both Marvel and Netflix, although Joss Whedon has revealed that he pushed hard for the property to be adapted into a new movie rather than a TV show.

“I fought for Daredevil to be a film instead of a TV show,” says Whedon to IGN. “If the show’s working, the show’s working. Comic books are serialized entertainment and a lot of them lend themselves to TV shows as much or more than they do to movies.”

“I like him because he’s basically Marvel’s Batman, thanks to Frank Miller basically,” continues the director. “So for me I didn’t think they’d be able to sustain that sort of mood on TV, but TV has changed so much. It’s come up so much that I think it might just be the right place.”

We may yet see Daredevil on the big screen, with Charlie Cox having recently confirmed that he would love to do a cameo in one of the forthcoming Phase 3 movies. Until then, we can look forward to another series of gore-soaked crime-fighting from Hells Kitchen’s finest…
