There’s no screenplay or writer at this time, but this is the first activity on the property since Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor outbid Lionsgate and Sony to pick up the rights to the franchise for $29.5 million last year. Deadline is reporting that Universal, Sony and Lionsgate, and CBS Films are looking at the package, and that they would have to get another movie going by 2018 before the rights return to James Cameron.

The article also suggests that Justin Lin is attached as possible director. He’s currently basking in better than expected box office and critical reaction to Fast Five (which is doing extremely well internationally even though it hasn’t opened in the US yet).
