Silent Hills is dead, but the Kojima and del Toro alliance has other plans

The would-be PS4-bound continuation of the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hills, is dead. But the creative duo behind it - film director Guillermo del Toro and video game auteur Hideo Kojima - are just getting started. Maybe. Hopefully.

In an interview with IGN, del Toro expressed his desire to continue working with the man behind the Metal Gear Solid series, stating, "I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills]."

Silent Hills never got far past the conceptual stage, but del Toro said that if it had, he would have liked it to evoke memories of the infamous Psycho Mantis scene in Metal Gear Solid, where a character appears to read your mind but is actually just scanning your memory card. "The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that," del Toro said.

Oh, well. While we dream of what could have been and what might yet be, there's plenty of Silent Hills-esque experiences to enjoy; there's P.T., the playable teaser that revealed Silent Hills (though it's now absent from the PlayStation Store), the mysterious Allison Road, virtual reality horror experience Kitchen, a first-person horror game where you play as a blind person called Perception, and a heaping helping of fan-made Silent Hill mods.
