City Tales - Medieval Era is the next worthy city builder to compete for your time, and it's coming to Early Access on Steam on May 22.
As revealed during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase, the city builder features all the genre favorites we know and love, with a vibrant color palette to match. You take a slice of land with humble camps and slowly transform it into a thriving medieval realm. How you do that and at what pace are up to you.

As per City Tales - Medieval Era's Steam page, there are no rigid grids here and you'll shape cities as they grow over time. Doing that effectively will require listening to what villagers want and paying close attention to what they need – some towns might go straight to the tavern while others will prefer the sanctity of the church. You'll also need to factor in your own designs for the realm and the resources you have to do it all. Some things may just have to wait.
Of course, you don't have to do it alone. City Tales - Medieval Era offers companions to hear out and place in charge of some regions to make running the whole show all the easier. As your Realm grows, so will they as they get used to their role.
As explained on Steam, developer Irregular Shapes is taking the Early Access route because it's a small team with ideas who are "passionate about building a community and including their feedback over the course of development." The current goal is to spend one year in Early Access, which could change depending on the feedback.
As for what's coming, the team wants to fully implement the "Marvels" system, a "high stake, high rewards type of building that will require good management and planning from the player." By the time we hit launch, we should have 14 fully fledged companions with a complete storyline and an end quest each. You've also got other goodies and features like new resources, buildings, production lines, and so much more.
