The Lone Gunmen will return for new X-Files series

The new series of The X-Files is bringing back all manner of familiar faces, with supporting player Dean Haglund revealing that fan-favourite recurring characters the Lone Gunmen will be returning for all six episodes of the new show.

For those unfamiliar with the show, the Lone Gunmen are a trio of conspiracy theorists (Byers, Frohike and Langly) who often assist Mulder and Scully in their investigations. Haglund's co-stars Tom Braidwood and Bruce Harwood will also be returning for the duration of the show's new run.

The trio had their own spin-off series – called, unsurprisingly, The Lone Gunmen – that ran for a single season in 2001. Just how they will be brought back is a bit of a head-scratcher, given that they were killed off in the ninth season of The X-Files. However, the show's modus operandi is playing fast and loose with what's 'possible', so we're sure they won't have too much trouble making it stick.

Co-starring the returning Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, the new series will debut on Fox on January 24, 2016. A UK air date has yet to be confirmed.
