Usually when a developer takes an idea that someone else had and puts their own spin on it, they don't wear their inspiration openly on their sleeve. But there are exceptions to this rule - case in point, Dragon Quest: Builders. This upcoming entry in the long-running JRPG franchise has heroes rebuilding a world made from blocks, using mallets, axes and more to break down the world's existing blocks and repurpose them for crafting.
So yeah, it sounds like Minecraft But With Slimes, something we noted when the game was announced. Square Enix has posted a few more screenshots of the game to its website since then, but if this initial batch is anything to go by, the comparisons between Dragon Quest: Builders and Mojang's low-res phenomenon will continue. The HUD even shows hints of a survival system where you manage your hero's hunger, just like in Minecraft.
To be fair, it's not like Minecraft invented these gameplay mechanics, and even if it ends up feeling similar in terms of gameplay (which it might not in the first place), it could still be a good game. We shouldn't judge a book by its cover - but it's okay to notice how similar its cover is to that other book over on the bestsellers table.
