My problem with dark souls 2 pvp, isnt really the lag. its more so the community combined with From's shitty ass design decisions with some items. People just stack items that increase the power of pyromancy, use a weapon that can spin and cover a huge area, use the old sun ring so that way when you hit them, it drops something that explodes and you cant combo them. ALSO if you are a spirit and summoned into their world, before you even spawn they either back stab you, use flame swathe and take 90% of your health and THEN run in and spin. From did not take pvp into consideration when they put these kinds of item into the game. PVP is even MORE unbalanced than dark souls 1, poise doesnt mean shit, every hit stuns YES even fists...i was stunned by a bare fist in full havels with the giants ring poise and poise break is broken completely, magic dominates EVERYTHING. I have been doing pvp for a solid week, and i can say that i have NOT HAD A SINGLE match where i didnt have EXACTLY what i said, go on. I just do not understand how they could have made it even more un-balanced than baffled. All i can say is this...Dark souls 2 is a BRILLIANT game, but the awful...its just awful...dont get it for the pvp.

It would probably be better if they took people's levels into account. I was a member of the cat covenant in DS1, and at least half the time I'd enter someone's world who had already beaten the game, while I was still stuck in Anor Lando. I could be fighting them for five minutes, finally almost drop their health, and they could take one swig of an Estus flask, raise their health back to full, and then two shot me. Now that I think about it, level unbalance was a bigger problem than the lag.

Michael, I agree and find you to be one of the rare few who are completely honest about the PVP. Let me preface by saying I purchased DS2 for the PVP (as I enjoyed DS1 PVP very much- minus the hackers and back-stab fishers). To be blunt, the lag is horrific (even if your connection is awesome, your opponent's may not) and you end up suffering (you need not be anywhere near your opponent and yet you sustain phantom damage). Other game developers have given the option in their games to let you decide your criteria for an opponent's connection speed (namely, if someone has a poor connection they can be filtered out from matchmaking). Not FromSoftware though. Worst of all are the one-hit wonders (you all know who you are). In an effort to try to balance the scales, I grinded to +3 Rat Covenant for the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring. Wearing this ring is supposed to prevent the host from receiving notice of being invaded. What FromSoftware never mentioned was that wearing this ring hinders you from being summoned. A BellBro will wait for a very long time to be summoned if you wear this ring. The minute you take off the ring you get summoned. I wasted my time to obtain a ring I cannot benefit from... The PVP is simply horrible (with no signs of nerfing the no-skill flame swathe spammers and the rest of the one-hit wonders).

I've still got some VERY mixed feelings about Dark Souls PvP. Haven't been playing DS2 online yet (my Uni flat connection doesn't recognize consoles lol), but I've been hearing some negative things from other people about DS2 PvP. Apparantly a lot of people aren't fond of the Soul Memory system.

I agree with Lorenzo, BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I really liked this show, but hey we'll seem theme again when Dark Souls 3 comes out :)
  • BladedFalcon - March 27, 2014 6:28 p.m.

So for once I've given the online and PVP aspect of the game a go... And so far it hasn't been very fun for me. Even though I have a good and stable connection, every time I've faced someone in a PvP match, there's always at least a half a second of lag, and it's ALWAYS to my disadvantage. I very rarely been able to win an online PvP match fair and square because every time I try to avoid an attack, it has already connected apparently, and every time I hit or backstab, it doesn't register. No idea if anyone else has been having this problem, but for me, it has made PvP a fucking chore rather than something fun.
  • TheTrooper424 - March 27, 2014 9:43 p.m.

I've clocked in at least 20ish hours of pvp and have encountered only one match where I experienced lag. My connection is hardly above 1.5 mbps so the servers have been working wonders! Curious to see why yours isn't working.
  • BladedFalcon - March 28, 2014 6:24 a.m.

Yeah, see, my connection speed is of 54 mbps, and it hasn't been disconnecting itself lately, so I doubt it's a stability issue either. So I truly don't get why I'm having almost a universal problem with every match I get into. ...Maybe it's the fact that others might be having such a much slower connection... But then, shouldn't that cause THEM to lag behind me, as opposed to me lagging behind them?
  • TheTrooper424 - September 1, 2014 9:39 p.m.

Possibly, I'm finally living at a place with good internet so hopefully this can be put to the test! If I can manage to get back into that game again. I have discovered the wonders of PC gaming and that has put a halt on everything haha
  • GoldenEagle1476 - March 28, 2014 10:40 p.m.

I haven't played Dark Souls 2 yet, but the first one had a lot of lag, pretty much as you described. Kind of disappointing that it hasn't been fixed.
