Next-gen EA games to go on sale 3 days before the new consoles

Electronic Arts has announced next-gen release dates for FIFA 14, Madden 25 and Battlefield 4. The dates are unusual as they pre-date the release of the next-gen consoles themselves. According to EA's Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore's blog post on, the street dates for these three titles on next-generation consoles are: Nov. 19 (North America)/Nov. 21 (Europe) for Xbox One and Nov. 12 (North America)/Nov. 29 (Europe) for PlayStation 4.

PS4 and Xbox One release on November 15 and 22 respectively in the US, meaning some gamers will be able to gaze longingly at their next-gen copies of Battlefield 4 for three whole days before being able to play it. The European launch dates for the new machines are Nov 29 for PS4 and Nov 22 for Xbox One, appearing alongside the new machines on Day 1.

Moore also reminded gamers that anyone purchasing the current-gen version of these games can upgrade to the next-gen version for a small fee later on--as little as $10 with participating retailers. Some features like FIFA's Ultimate Team and Battlefield's stats will be transferable from current-gen to next, allowing gamers to 'get a jump' on everyone else if they play the Xbox 360/PS3 versions of the games first.
