Final Fantasy 14 fans rejoice as the latest patch is now live and filled with an obscene amount of new stuff to do (and puts Destiny’s DLC to shame), as well as continuing where the story left off at the end of the Heavensward Expansion. Called As Goes Light, So Goes Darkness, patch 3.1 adds two new dungeons, a new raid, exploratory missions, a new minigame, mounts, minions, hairdos, and gear galore. Not checked out the game yet? Then this patch is a great time to jump in as FF14 is arguably the best game in the series.
The biggest new draw is exploratory missions which see you and your Free Company (basically a guild) friends take an airship ride to some new floating Islands and then beating up the local wildlife or gathering resources to find new treasures. There’s also a new 24-man raid that takes you inside the Void Ark - an ancient magical ship that’s filled with all sorts of horrible bosses to take down - and an Extreme version of the Thordans Reign bossfight, that sees you take on FF14’s version of the legendary Knights of the Round summon.
Fisticuffs aside the new Gold Saucer minigame called Lords of Verminion sees you pit your menagerie of collected minions against various challenges and opponents in rts-style battles.
My favourite new addition? The Paissa minion. Look at its face! Who doesn’t want their own mini Squonk…
