Report: Sony producing mascot fighter, codenamed 'Title Fight'

Smash Bros. clone to feature Sweet Tooth, Nathan Drake, Kratos and other PS3 celebrities

Sony may be close to announcing a Super Smash Bros-esque ensemble fighter for PS3, according to reports culled from inside sources and wayward tweets. The game, codenamed Title Fight, is rumored be in development by SuperBot Entertainment and star the likes of Twisted Metal's Sweet Tooth, God of War's Kratos, Uncharted's Nathan Drake, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter.

Early details of the unconfirmed game first popped up on the Paul Gale Network site at the beginning of November. According to Gale's contacts, the fighter will play much like Nintendo's Super Smash Bros series in that it will pit a collection of Sony's most famous mascots against each other amidst interactive environments inspired by each character's home franchise, such as the 'Sandover Village' from the Jak & Daxter. Other PS3 celebrities rumored to be making an appearance are Parappa the Rappa, Fat Princess, and Killzone's Colonel Mael Radec.

In his most recent update this weekend, Gale confirmed the game is indeed being coded by the newly formed California studio SuperBot Entertainment, and external testing has already started in Sony's Santa Monica office. Gale also shared now-deleted tweets from senior level designer Chris Molina's, which referred to Sony's all-star 'Michael' commercial as “vaguely foreshadowing our soon to be announced title”.

Now that the internet is buzzing about Title Fight, expect Sony to make an official announcement shortly, we wouldn't be too shocked if it happened at the VGAs. In the meantime, see what you can deduce from the handful of Molina's development pictures, and let us know what you think of Sony's Super Smash Bros concept.

lol wut? actually if i remember, there was an article here once about possible ssb clones on other consoles, any chance of reviving it? I'd go look for it but im a little lazy right now.

Microsoft should make one where it is Master Chief and Marcus and a Forza car. You only need three characters right?
  • onetimebuster - November 28, 2011 10:19 a.m.

This reminds me of Onimusha Blade Warriors.

While this seems extremely lazy in terms of originality, I'm still quite excited for it - I have put more hours into the SSB series possibly more than any game series in existence, and if Sony wants to try and replicate it, I say go for it. I can see it now... Sully is an unlock-able character, cole would have some sweet electrical moves... excited!

Always figured Kratos would be good for a Smash Bros. style game. Also, Radec? Hell yeah!

This could be OK; although, I'm not a huge Smash Bros fan.

Also, what is that last picture?

so soon we'll see Smash Bros. 4, That weird Cartoon Network one (That was released already right?), and a Sony smasher. Cool. Brawlers for all.

It's a shot of their debug mode screen. In the lower left-hand corner, there's a block of text which specifically names Sweet Tooth and Kratos as playable characters.

Who the hell is Paul Gale?

hmm, this looks pretty cool, I guess I'll have to watch the VGAs... They're pretty awful, but the games announced are not!

Too early to make any real opinion of it. Certainly not an original idea at all, but if they can at least make it as fun as an actual Smash Bros game, and not like, say Onimusha Blade warriors. (Which got old really, really fast.) Then it might be worth checking it out. Also, they should get Wander, bonus points if they include Agro somehow.

Sounds interesting. Maybe they'll actually have online play like SSB never did. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the potential character list. Namely, where's Crash Bandicoot?
  • Zanetsuken - November 28, 2011 12:38 p.m.

No Ratchet & Clank? NO SALE In all seriousness, I'm sure they'll be in the game. I'm honestly surprised that it took Sony this long. Also, FriedBeans wins the comment section for this article. XD

I cannot not wait for this game!!
  • tymillz102 - November 28, 2011 12:53 p.m.

SSBB had online play, but it wasn't that great because of lag and matchmaking problems.
  • FlyinHawaiian13 - November 28, 2011 2:19 p.m.

Super smash bros was mostly cartoony characters and it kinda fit Idk about this. But can we get original trilogy spyro please? and Crash bandicoot? And Abe? Spike from Ape Escape? Sir Dan? NOSTALGIA
  • Bantha_Fodder - November 28, 2011 2:44 p.m.

I am... intrigued... but they NEED to have Sackboy. it's not a PS3 party without LittleBigPlanet. the thing is, if you think about it, Nintendo characters would play VERY differently from Sony characters in a game like this. there would be similarities, sure, but this could take the Smash Bros. concept (everyone gets together and knocks the piss out of eachother. fan shoutouts are everywhere) and introduce a totally different play style.
  • Bantha_Fodder - November 28, 2011 2:48 p.m.

so we have Sweettooth, Nathan Drake, Kratos, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Fat Princess, Parappa the Rapper, and Colonel Mael Radec confirmed... let's get Crash Bandicoot, Sackboy, Ratchet and Clank, Spyro (THE CLASSIC ONE. bonus points if they get Tom Kenny back), and of course, Kevin Butler. it'd be glorious.
  • darron13 - November 28, 2011 4:29 p.m.

    I laughed.
