Download of the Week: Er, Splinter Cell HD again, maybe? God, this week's downloads are crap

Platform: PS3 | Publisher: Ubisoft | Developer: Ubisoft | Price: £23.99/€29.99 for all three, £7.99/€9.99 each

All our downloads are piped in with the lightning-quick Virgin Media 50Mb Broadband...

Believe it or not, Sony actually did a good thing when they took backward compatibility out of the PS3. Well they did if you're a publisher anyway, because now you can rerelease your whole last-gen catalogue and make double-profits for minimal effort! We joke of course (sort of). Some games really do deserve better treatment than crusty old SD could give them, and the Splinter Cell trilogy is certainly three of those games.

Yes, we ran this lot as last week's Download of the Week too, but this week's selection of DLC is so dismally sparse and uninspiring that we haven't found anything else worth recommending. And there are three of them, so if you only bought one last week, get another one.

Want more DLC? Check these out...

Rage HD | iOS | Free
Yep, thanks to a Facebook campaign, id's on-rails Rage spin-off is free for a week. Get it! Kill mutants! For free!

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy | Mac | £10.49 each
The original 3D GTAs finally make it to Mac via the App Store. Not free, but not too extortionate either.

When will this be available in America?

I hope you are making some good money from those shameless Virgin ads. Might look into this, do they look noticeably better?

Are these on the American store yet, the last time you talked about these they were only on the European store. I want these.

Wouldn't doing an older downloadable game have been better than redoing the last one? I think disc-based is the way to go for these rereleases, there's little chance the digital ones will get cheaper, but the discs should drop from $30 after a bit.

Splinter cell are great games hoping for a 360 realease.

Speaking of the SC trilogy, I really wish that these would be released on the 360. I'd love to replay them in HD, but can't justify the purchase of a new console on (re)playing last gen gems.

Eh, this article sounds more like an advert for Virgin Media broadband than an informative heads-up on the weeks downloads. I feel dirty after having read it.

So glad I bought a backwards compatible PS3. Even if they are, technically, just a PS3 with a PS2 inside the case. The 3D GTAs- Would that be Vice City, San Andreas etc? Or are they the GTA/GTA2/GTA3 ones?

Not that you're sounding too despondent about it Dave :-P The GTA trilogy for Mac is a great shout, I can finally play something other than Portal and Minecraft on this thing.
