Watch the GoldenEye 007 remake from Rare that never happened

There's still something special about the angular hallways and hapless, grunting soldiers of GoldenEye 007. Both are perfectly preserved in this recently unearthed gameplay footage of Rare's GoldenEye 007 Xbox 360 remake, which makes it all the more disappointing that it never came out.

It's especially cool to see how the unreleased game would let you instantly switch between updated HD visuals and the original blocky models and fuzzy textures, like in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. Compare this to GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, which swapped out Pierce Brosnan for Daniel Craig and didn't let you shoot the Ushanka caps off Soviet goons, and the choice is clear.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
