Activision has confirmed plans to release the previously rumoured movie tie in Fast & Furious: Showdown. The Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii U and 3DS title is “expected” to launch on May 24 to coincide with Fast & Furious 6’s cinema release.

The publisher’s official announcement of the game confirms that the title will support two-player co-op gameplay “in a collection of high-stakes driving missions” in “epic locations around the globe”. Players will be able to switch between various roles including driver, gunman, tactician or daredevil. Users will also be able to build and modify cars with upgrades and performance perks, and participate in a challenge mode featuring “over-the-top objectives” and an online leaderboard.

Showdown’s existence was previously revealed by retailer and ratings body listings, with the former suggesting it will tie together the events of previous Fast & Furious films with those of 6 through racing, hijacking and shootout segments.

Even though this is a licensed game, the idea has potential to be pretty fun. Too bad it'll probably be awful.
