MechWarrior Online looks to take everything fun about the brand and make it work for a large-scale, free-to-play competitive online game, and from what we've seen so far (check out our MechWarrior Online preview) it appears that the developers are doing a fine job of creating a game that will please fans of the series. And by "please fans of the series," we mean "include giant mechs and explosions."
We, too, are quite excited, and are pleased to bring you the first in-game screenshots of the Catapult, a fan-favorite mech that will be playable in the game. The Catapult, which historically is often used by the Capellan Confederation, isn't as fast as some others, but it packs a hearty punch. The images above are all in-engine, and show off exactly what the giant metal machine will look like when you boot the game up. See: ready to blow up your head.
Seriously, look at that thing! It's freaking covered in missiles, jetpacks, shoulder cannons, and other things made specifically to melt off faces. Melt. Face. Clean. Off. We can't wait.
Other interesting news is the results of a poll run on the MechWarrior site. The developers listed a number of mechs and asked their fans which was the best mech in MechWarrior., and the results have been tallied. The Awesome mech came away with 23%, followed by the Centurion at 21% and the Catapult at 14%. You can check out the site for more information, or stay tuned for more MechWarrior Online news.
