Last year’s use of Dead Space armor in Dragon Age II proved that EA loves to use its big collection of franchises to promote one another. And it did the same with Sims 3 cats. That tradition continues this year with Mass Effect 3 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and the best part is this DLC won’t cost you anything.
As you can see in the above image, both games will have exclusive in-games items inspired by each other, with Amalur armor in ME3 and Mass Effect 3 weapons in Amalur. How do you get them? First if you download the Amalur demo on the 17th next week, after playing it you’ll unlock two Mass Effect 3 items designed by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane. Here’s how EA describes them:
Reckoner Knight Armor: This armor will maximize damage done in close-quarters combat while a beefed–up power cell feeds energy into weapon systems to increase projectile velocity.
The Chakram Launcher: This weapon uses a fabricator to manufacture lightweight, explosive ammunition discs. This weapon is earned after completing the Reckoning demo and watching the trailer at the end.
Meanwhile, if you play the Mass Effect 3 demo (which doesn’t have a date yet), you’ll unlock these two items in Amalur:
N7 Armor: Players can unlock special armor inspired by Commander Shepard’s iconic N7 battle armor including Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Chausses and Greaves.
Onmiblade Daggers: A holographic blade stemming from Commander Shepard’s Omni-Tool, the Omni-blade allows players to stab enemies in close combat. Once players install and play the Mass Effect 3 demo, they will unlock the daggers.
You can see all of them in the below screenshots.
It’s a nice and most importantly free way to entice fans of both series to try the other out. And perhaps most importantly, this might give us some hint of when the Mass Effect 3 demo is coming. Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning launches February 7, so we’d like to think the ME3 demo would hit before that, since you’d think EA would want that DLC out there at launch. It’s no guarantee though, so let’s hope we’ll have confirmation soon.
