Get a 24k gold plated NES/Famicom system for only $4,999

Someday, when I'm old and living off the fat off the land, I'll buy this $4,999 gold-plated NES. Except they're only making ten of them, and by the time that I could actually afford one, their 24-karat shells will probably all have been scrapped to make laser rifle mods. At least I can enjoy the pretty pictures while I wait for Fallout 4 to happen IRL.

As you might have gathered, this isn't an official Nintendo production: instead, boutique electronics firm Analogue is making a limited run of its Analogue Nt systems, which play both Famicom and NES games using original hardware, in plated gold to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Each system also comes with an original, gold-colored copy of Zelda (which are still just plastic, not actual gold, no matter what your best friend said in second grade).

A standard Analogue Nt is a tenth of the price at $499, though the first shipment is all sold out. Might as well go for gold and be way ahead when the world economy returns to barter, right?

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
