The SloProFum Big Daddy…

Irrational Games has recently updated their blog with some fantastic concept art for creatures that never made it into the final game. Scroll back a little further to see some of their older posts, and you’ll also find an amazing Big Daddy design that just wasn’t meant to be. According to Irrational Games’ Shawn Elliott, ‘SloProFum’ was the studio’s internal name for the prototype Big Daddy, shown below, who would fire iron bearing projectiles and maul players with his huge hook. The name stands for “slow projectile/fucked-up melee,” which seems fitting.

So check out the SloProFum and some other fascinating ideas that never made it past the drawing board.

Above: SloProFum. Imagine getting mauled by this beastly Big Daddy

Above: Yam Hand. His burlap sack is scary, and his oversized arm packs a carb-filled punch

Above: Jelly Man. Maybe this is what happens when you use too much ADAM-infused body soap?

Yam hand reminds me too much of the flood so that's a no-go for me. Jelly Man would have been an interesting addition, if they got the whole gooey pick stuff right. And for the SloProFum Big I think there are enough variations of the Big Daddies. Adding another might be a bad idea, but that's just my opinion.

For me atleast, i don't like hellish deamons and silent hill type malformed monster, bioshock has its own monsters and scary stuff happening already, why cheapen it?

yam hand would have be way better than the brute spilcer

All of these are brilliant. I would love to see Jelly Man, especially.

They discussed this one their relatively-new podcast. I'm loving it even more than the Bungie one. Also, dogs in wheelchairs make me sad.

Wow. ALL of those shoulda been in there, not that dumb Brute Splicer.
  • bonerachieved - March 17, 2010 11:20 p.m.

o man that is really disturbing. That would've been borderline The Thing.
  • norid - March 17, 2010 11:12 p.m.

Jelly Man would have been an awesome enemy!
