RadarPlays - Ristar

In this retro RadarPlays, we plug in Sonic Team’s other Genesis platformer, Ristar. Released late in the Genesis’ lifespan, this intergalactic adventure was skipped by many back in the day. But it’s well worth digging up in rereleases like Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. Watch as Ristar experts/GamesRadar editors Henry Gilbert, Ryan Taljonick, and Lucas Sullivan give this 16-bit beauty a whirl…

Want to hang out with GamesRadar's editors while taking a look at retro games, new releases, and totally random experiences? RadarPlays is for you. Mondays we'll be checking out blasts from the past, Wednesdays (and sometimes Tuesdays and Thursdays, depending on the week) is reserved for new releases, and Friday is packed with the strangest titles you’ve never (hopefully) heard of.

I always thought it was pronounced "RIE-Star" instead of "wristar". I'm pretty sure you guys are right though haha. Really like this game especially the fact that you become a shooting star whenever you clear a world to get to the next world. Really charming game.

Guys, FAPs are gone. Yes, Henry is still around and Mikel pops in for some freelance now and then but think of it this way. When a radio station has a change in staff you don't still expect to hear a new DJ doing the previous DJ's segments. It's usually kinda of hack and disrespectful. Not that the current crew isn't funny on their own, but if you miss the old crew they are still doing things separate from this site. Laser Time is awesome and growing more and more all the time and needs support for more content in the future so maybe check them out.

I didn't associate the FAP label with any one individual. It was just the name of GR videos showing off a game. Just because you change the players doesn't mean you change the name of the team. Should the site no longer be called GR because they got new writers?

You're the worst person ever for that, Cooper.

... I like to imagine that's how any normal morning begins in the GR offices.

I'm definitely having nightmares now. Cheers.

Good times. I tried playing this game on the PS2 Sega Genesis Collection but I didn't really get it. Thanks for showing me how to play. I missed this game back in the day.

So it's a FAP only now you don't call it that anymore because you want the site to be more mature? Regardless I'm glad to see more of this style of content come back.

A FAP by any other name...
