Are you a Call of Duty Elite premium member? Now you finally know what you've been paying (and waiting) for. Starting January 24 with a pair of new multiplayer maps – set in New York's Central Park and an Italian seaside village – and continuing through September of this year, subscribers will automatically receive a total of 20 downloadable content drops for Modern Warfare 3. A third piece will hit in February, with a fourth and fifth launching in March.

But if they're not all maps, what are they?

Developers promise new Spec Ops missions and, more vaguely, new "game modes." Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling couldn't give us any extra details on the latter, but when asked if the Spec Ops missions would take place only in familiar Modern Warfare 3 environments, he teased: "We want to do a variety. We really didn't set any restrictions. We told the teams, 'Just do whatever you think is fun. If you want to tie into the story and characters, do it. If you want to do something completely unique – a location we've never seen – as long as it fits into the Modern Warfare universe, then it's fair game.'"

And yes, fanboys, Xbox Live users will get all of this content first – though not exclusively. PS3 and PC Elite owners will catch up at a currently undefined “later time” while everyone, including those who are not Elite premium members, can purchase the DLC in collections along the way. The first of those is scheduled for March, though again, Xbox 360 players get first crack.

Will you be upgrading to Call of Duty Elite premium for content like this? How do you feel about 360 getting the DLC first? I love this game! Best one yet. My most favorite part is the guns! I found this cool place to find all the guns from the game, check it out http://www.airsplat.com/airsoft-video-games.htm Just got my M4 from there and I love it!

COD Elite seems more of a DLC membership per game basis. Sure you get the 9 months, year subscription but at the end of 9 months from release all of the DLC content is release and it is now to the next COD game. I assume you just have to buy $50 COD Elite again come November 2012 if you want to experience the Black Ops 2 DLC.

If I'm correct I think you had until February to purchase Elite. Right now I'm on the fence as to whether get a season pass for SR3 or put all my money from my birthday together and get Elite. The only thing is I have no desire to play anything other than MP and I don't want to be paying for Spec Op add-ons if I don't go ELite and just purchase individually. As far as 360 getting the stuff first; I'm not surprised at all. This isn't the first time this has happened between IW and MS.

Hmmmm only 9 months eh? I thought it was year round. Question for anybody who has Elite, When did you pay for it exactly? Do months you don't get content still count on your subscription? and finally does the yearly content start after the first content release or has it been running since you start it? I don't have it, so I think it would be more fair to ask those that do have it how it works exactly.

When you first activate your Elite membership then you have 12 months of it, if new content comes out within those 12 months you will get it for free.

Then anyone who has activated their membership have been wasting some months? Fitting CAPTCHA: Nikolai Garients
