Project Hell, a fantasy first-person slasher from Dead Island developer Techland, is officially Hellraid. The project--which began life as an internal Dead Island mod--is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 with a single-player campaign and a competitive/co-op online mode.

Players can take a precise grip on melee weaponry to fight the invading creatures of hell, or use ranged gear to skewer from afar. Magical weapons, crafting, and character development will bolster players as they progress through the campaign.

The online mode includes a "Game Master" system to make every round unique, a tabletop-gaming nod to Left 4 Dead's director system. It will be a separate experience from the campaign, as opposed to than Dead Island's four-player co-optional progression.

Dead Island's melee combat was one of its best-received features, so we look forward to seeing Hellraid's dark fantasy hack-and-slashery when it launches later this year.

Sounds cool, make an elder scrolls style first person fantasy game but focus on the combat rather which has always felt too simple in es

I was going to say it sounds like Skyrim, just without the epic scope. But it will probably still have the bugs we all love so much.
