Download of the Week: Splinter Cell HD trilogy gets the green light for a PSN outing

Platform: PS3 | Publisher: Ubisoft | Developer: Ubisoft | Price: £7.99/$10 each

The frequency in which Ubisoft are turning out their HD remakes is both amazing and surprising. After Beyond Good and Evil and Prince of Persia, Sam Fisher is next to creep from the shadows in sparkly new graphics, and we'll be honest, the release sort of crept up on us like the man himself. Thankfully he didn't slice our throats as we innocently sipped a cup of tea.

But here they are - the PS2 classic - the first Splinter Cell plus Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory for a fraction of their original prices. a 360 release for the collection is imminent.

Want more DLC? Check these out...

Monster Dash | iOS | £0.69/$0.99
Combine the sprint/jump action of Canabalt with shotguns, motorbikes and monsters and you've got this little gem. The object is to get as far as you can while blasting vampires, yetis and more. BLAMMO!

Tropico 3 | Steam | £5.09/$5.09
Become the ruler of your own tropical island in this Sim City-esque management game. No wait, come back, it's actually really good. The action is laced with tongue-in-cheek humour and the added pressure of being invaded if you're a dick.

Axe in Face | iOS | £0.69/$0.99
Boomerang axes, what a perfect weapon for would-be Vikings. Axe in Face sees you drawing a line around the screen which your deadly battle-axe will follow and decapitate the evil army determined to stomp on your, erm, daffodils.

Does this also include the US PSN? Been waiting for this to come out for a while now. Also, not any mention of the online multiplayer for the game?

I wouldnt get this if you play inverted Y-axis as Ubisoft couldnt be bothered to add that option in any of the 3 titles released on PSN. Ive just wasted £7.99 because its simply unplayable for me not to mention alot of others. Shame. Oh and incase you were wondering it'll take 6-8 weeks for them to impliment it via patch IF they decide to. Ive made it my point to spread this news to alot of sites this morning because I simply don't want others to waste there money on these if your dependant on inverted Y-axis too.

@MrKAP Is that really that big of a deal? I just go with whatever axis setting they set in whatever game I play. I'd think that people would learn to adapt to whatever the game throws at them, be it a large group of enemies with few hiding spots, or an unchangeable game mechanic.

I love splinter cell! Do these really have updated visuals? I need to get a better look. MrKAP: I used to play with an inverted Y axis all the time. But then I realized I should stop making it hard on myself and just get used to playing games like a normal person. Contrary to popular belief, it's not impossible to switch; it didn't even take that long. I've never looked back.

I hope this comes to ps3 and was Prince of persia realeased on Xbox or just psn?
  • MrKAP - August 13, 2011 7:13 a.m.

@ChiChiRocket I completely agree with you, but if you play a certain way I shouldnt have to adapt to something that today is standard. Theres left handed people and right handed people, imagin Ubisoft said to every left handed gamers to play right handed and visversa.. it just wont be fare right... A massive company like Ubisoft could and should be able to cater for both inverted and none inverted players. 62% of COD players play inverted. Tell those guys to play uninverted lol @Desann Playing inverted isnt making it hard on yourself if it feels natural TO YOU! Ive been playing inverted Y-axis on consoles for longer then some games have been alive (15+ years) so for a game today to not feature it is AMAZING right? @Yeager1122 It IS out on PS3 dude, hence the article title on PSN lol. You got to love the internet sometimes...
