New Adrift trailer invites you to explore a beautiful tragedy

It's been awhile since we saw Adrift, the space exploration game from developer Three One Zero. But with its March 28 release date just around the corner (for PC owners, anyway - PS4 and Xbox One versions are coming later this year), it's high time we got a new trailer full of gorgeous zero-g imagery and gameplay.

If you're just catching up, Adrift was inspired by the life events of Adam Orth, a former creative director at Xbox. Those who recall the days of the Xbox One as a machine that would have required its users to be connected to the Internet as an anti-piracy measure may also recall Orth's mocking of those who complained about said proposal.

Tweets like "Sometimes the electricity goes out. I will not buy a vacuum cleaner," and "Deal with it" were enough to inspire a call for Orth's termination with Microsoft, which is exactly what happened. Orth compares the disaster players find themselves dealing with in Adrift to his real-life drama, though obviously it's a bit more fantastical in nature.

Adrift is generating a lot of buzz for how well it sells the fantasy of virtual reality, and while it will be compatible with PC headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive as well as the PlayStation VR system, it will also be available in non-VR form as well.
