Lords of Shadow success surprised MercurySteam, now they want Contra

MercurySteam, the developer of the amazing 3D Castlevania title, Lords of Shadow made some very interesting comments recently in which they admit LoS's DLC was pretty bad.

According to the developer, the success of Lords of Shadow took them and their management completely off guard. Which is why they were unprepared when the suits came around asking them to develop DLC. As a result, the DLC was rushed and low-quality, which David Cox (producer at MercurySteam) described as a "mistake."

More interestingly, the studio is already looking past its tenure on the Castlevania series."Well, I think it's about wanting to leave a legacy," Cox said to VG247. "And I don't want to be in charge of a series that perhaps over a certain time is going to decline. I'd rather go out with a bang and leave that as our legacy in the Castlevania universe."

Cox elaborated further, talking a bit about what he'd like to work on next. "I love Contra," he said. "I'd love to do Contra. At Mercury Steam we've got an original idea that I think is really awesome. We'd love to bring that idea to market and I'm hoping that the success ofLords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that."

Now everybody go pre-order Lords of Shadow 2 and Mirror of Faith. Now. We want a MercurySteam developed Contra reboot in the worst way.

WayForward did an amazing job with Contra 4, and to be honest I'd rather see them get another crack at it as opposed to letting MercurySteam use the series as a test bed for their ideas... that's not gone so well for previous contra titles.

I have to agree with this. I'd love to have another Contra developed by WayForward, but well, it HAS been a while, and they've made other stuff now, maybe they're just not interested in the franchise anymore.

Heh, this extra confirms what I've hard about them ending the LoS saga definitely with LoS 2. Also, I love contra, and I've liked that mercurystream has done with Castlevania. SO I guess it could be interesting to see what they could do with the franchise. Only thing that dampens my spirits is that whatever it is, pretty sure it won't be a 2D sprite looking game. Which is a style i just can't help to love XD Either way, don't you guys worry about me putting my part for the success of MoF and LoS2. Both are as good as bought already ;)
