THQ looking for a buyer for Devil's Third

Shares

In the same conference call in which we learned South Park: The Game had been delayed, THQ mentioned that they are looking to sell off one of their upcoming titles, Devil's Third.

Developed by Valhalla Games, Devil's Third is to be the first game made by Tomonobu Itagaki since his high-profile departure from Tecmo in 2008. THQ said that Devil's Third's "profitability profile" no longer meets their "internal threshold" and they are in talks with third parties about selling it.

We're not sure what this means for THQ, but right now it doesn't sound like the best news for Devil's Third. The title may not be affected at all, but there's always a chance THQ wont be able to find a buyer. And if that happens, we may have a cancellation on our hands.

Wonder how much of this is to do with Itagkis rather blunt personality when it comes to how he wants his games to be made, and his general feelings towards the differant consoles and such. During his days days with Team Ninja, Itagaki became very much an X-Box fanboy, refusing to make any games for other consoles once he decided that he thought the X-Box (and then the 360) were the most powerful consoles available. (It was only through a side project, that we saw Ninja Gaiden Sigma arrive on the PS3)

I hope they not only find a buyer for this game, but for their better properties as well when they finally fold. Not that I want them to go under - I actually like most of the games THQ has put out - but it seems like an inevitability at this point.
