Diablo III isn't an RPG. Guild Wars 2 is pathetic. Mass Effect 3 isn't an RPG. Sticker Star is an embarrassment. The Last Story is really the only viable option here, honestly Torchlight II got boring after 2 hours X-Com MOST DEFINITELY is not an RPG, it's a TBS. Other then that, Dragon's Dogma and Devil Survivor 2 are missing, and those are the only other games that should be on there. Better then the rest of the list.

Debating the validity of 'RPG' label for diablo is actually an interesting topic. Calling it 'not an RPG' is absolutely correct IMO. But so is JRPG, which has next to zero 'role play'. Each action-rpgs and jrpgs are entirely different genre than traditional rpgs and they actually deserve their own category. On the other hand, separating their categories convolutes an award list, so yeah.

JRPGs are called that solely for convenience, but it's generally true they are more linear (but tell a better story) then WRPG's which prefer open choices (whether or not it will actually alter the story or not). Mass Effect 3 at it's base technicality is still an RPG, I guess, but then again it's still far away from the "traditional" sense of an RPG. Or even Mass Effect 1.

Mass Effect 3 IS RPG. Player choice of look, class, behavior and growth of character, chance to change group members, be part the story and a chance to change the endings in an open world (galaxy). That is a RPG.

Ok. Plenty of games have that that aren't classified as RPG's. At it's core, Mass Effect has been REMOVING the RPG parts from 1, to 2, to 3. What you are naming doesn't even have to do with the game. The G part of the RPG is almost non-existant in Mass Effect 3.

I don't know. Diablo 3 was a letdown for most people. Guild Wars 2 was said to be great, but I would really prefer an offline RPG in thes category. Mass Effect 3 was good, but not RPG of the year good. It had issues. Paper Mario, eh... a mario game as RPG fo the year? Come on! The last story i know nothing about. Torchlicht 2 was fun, but I'm not a big fan of the hack n slash RPG genre. It's just too repetitive. XCom in my opinion is more of a turn based strategy, with RPG elements. I don't really like either one as winner. Nothing better came out this year? A definitive winner?

Please take ME3 and Diablo 3 off this list, and put them in as nominees for "Best Game with an Identity Crisis" or "Most Hyped, Worst Launched"

    XCOM all the way.

Despite the issues I had with the ME3 ending originally, I'd probably have to go with that since I loved everything else about it and didn't even mind the ending as much after extended cut and leviathan. Diablo 3 was a huge let down for me, so many things clearly had been designed around the real money auction house. Guild Wars 2 was fun, and while I still log on for a bit of World vs World every couple weeks it just doesn't grab me into it.

Great nominees for RPG, their all awesome and some did much better than expected. I enjoyed Xcom and Sticker Star especially, Mass Effect 3, i havnt played it yet(JESUS CHRIST I STILL OWN IT) but besides the shenanigans with the ending, everything else was legit awesome. Same goes with Diablo 3 and the shenanigans of not being able to sign in.
