The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake – Everything we know about the confirmed remake
A complete guide on everything that you need to know about the newly announced Ocarina of Time remake
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is real, and it's coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this year. If you haven't been following rumors of the remaster, that's a lot to take in – and even if you were, I doubt anyone expected to see the visuals or approach unveiled in June 2026's Nintendo Direct.
With the Nintendo 64 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time still regarded as one of the best Zelda games of all time, its remake is now one of the most exciting upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games to watch out for. And while Nintendo has shared precious little about our imminent return to Kokiri Forest, the fact it's launching this year means you should expect to hear more news arrive quickly (perhaps even with a Zelda Direct?) in the coming months.
Until more is shared, we've gathered everything we do know about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Switch 2 remake below. Listen!
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time release date speculation
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time currently has a 2026 release window. This means it's currently scheduled to launch this year, but Nintendo has not provided an exact date for when.
Nintendo tends to turn up with another Direct later in the year to finalize its holiday releases, although with The Legend of Zelda movie planned for 2027 and Ocarina of Time being as big as it is, it's possible we'll hear more on the developer's plans for Hyrule sooner rather than later.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time story and gameplay
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time tells what is arguably the series' most foundational story. When Link, the only child in Kokiri Forest without a fairy companion, meets the great Deku Tree; he's shortly sent on a quest to save Hyrule from the schemes of Gerudo thief Ganondorf. Not only does this serve as the introduction to the series' main antagonist, but nearly every Zelda game released since can trace its story back to Ocarina of Time – which famously split the series into multiple timelines with its paradoxical ending.
As for how Ocarina of Time will play on Switch 2, it remains to be seen whether Nintendo has taken a light touch or opted for a more sweeping overhaul. The original plays closest to its ancestors Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, with Link set loose in a central area (in this case Hyrule Field) from which he can explore Hyrule, tackle optional minigames and stories, and clear dungeons to foil Ganondorf. That said, given Nintendo has already revived Ocarina of Time before, it's possible the developer looks to take things a step further in a similar vein to its Switch remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. So unless anyone has an ocarina handy, we'll have to wait to learn more.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time platforms
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's remake will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, which means you unfortunately won't be able to play this on a base Nintendo Switch. Nor will it land on another console, as Nintendo famously keeps the Zelda series exclusive to its own consoles.
If you don't own a Switch 2, sorry to be the bearer of bad news – but if it helps, we've hand-picked the best games like Zelda to scratch the itch no matter your console of choice.
