New Terminator mod gets CliffyB’s approval

Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski recently gave a glowing endorsement for FPS Terminator, a Terminator mod made with the Unreal Engine 3. “Check out this SWEET FPS Terminator mod,” said the famous game designer via Twitter. “These guys are going to get a job in the biz if they haven’t already.” Set in the year 2029 during the war against the machines, FPS Terminator does look very impressive. Check out screenshots and a trailer below.

    Being a reactionary dick and starting revolutions is my purpose in life...

    All the same, I apologise to any console gamers who I may feel like I was making it an "us & them" situation... it was early in the morning and I couldn't sleep so I was a little grumpy -_-

    I also feel I should point out that while this started out as a mod for Gears of War, it's now in UDK, which is basically the Unreal 3 engine with out access to all the UT or Gears assets. So everything here they have built from the ground up using the engine, meaning it's pretty much a free game in the making now and not a mod. This also means that you don't need Gears of War or UT3 to play this, just DL, install and enjoy if you have a pc with high enough specs that is...

    I agree. It's in alpha stage and the game has some pretty awesome looking visuals.

    I saw this mod a little back on Moddb or forgot about it till now. And if I remember the team wasn't very big..

    As for the assault rifle.. It's also been featured in S.T.A.L.K.E.R as well as Killzone 2. It's just a slightly modified ar-15. Lr300 or something if I recall.

    JohnnyMaverik, Just because some people are uninformed doesn't mean you should spit feathers at them. Politely correct their uneducated views and your Karma will stay in balance. As it is you are going to say something dumb about console gaming and get a new one ripped while being corrected within the next week.

    For those of you saying this doesn't look good. This is a mod not an actual game, and for a mod it's pretty dang good, so if you think it sucks I'd like to see you do any better.

    @JohnnyMaverik, I totally get where you're coming from, and I totally agree, but don't think that all of us console gamers are idiots who can't appreciate an honest effort from aspiring game designers.

    I'm a Mac owner, so I doubt I'll ever get to try this out, but I thought that it looked pretty impressive, especially considering they aren't being given massive amounts of money to do this. The only issue I have with it, and this may just be misrepresented by the trailer, is that the T-800s are supposed to be next-to-invincible, so mowing down waves of them like enemies in a typical FPS seems to break the story a little bit. As much as people hated Terminator Salvation (unjustly, I feel, but that's beside the point) I think that'd be a better setting. You can still have an all out war with the machines, but they haven't reached the point where T-800s are the standard model.

    Regardless of all that, it looks like the makings of a fun game, and it's too bad I probably won't get to try it out.

    These modders deserve respect. most games (like CoD) take a huge team of 30+ people working for years spending millions of dollars.
    This was probably made by a bunch of friends in their spare time for fun.
