Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice tries it again on 3DS

What happens when you mix fire with ice? If you said "water, then steam," well, you're right. But you also get another Sonic Boom game for 3DS.

Developed by Sanzaru Games, the same team behind Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal (and the most recent Sly Cooper game), it doesn't look like Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will be accompanied by another Wii U game... which may be for the best. Anyway, Fire & Ice will expand on Shattered Crystal's character-swapping sidescrolling action, letting Sonic and friends imbue themselves with the eponymous elements to melt through ice blockades or skate along frozen water, among other hot and cool stunts.

One of the most common complaints about both Sonic Boom games (just behind "their legs are weirdly long") was that they simply weren't fast enough. The new "Bot Racing" mode should help address that, letting you chase records of your friends' best times - allowing you to shadow the hedgehog, if you will.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice will release in "holiday 2015," and you'd better believe it will tie in with the Sonic Boom Cartoon Network animated series.
