Mike Myers to voice Pep Le Pew

Pepe Le Pew

Shrek may be over, but Mike Myers’ voice is still in demand for kiddie animated fare – Warner Bros have hired him to voice Pepé Le Pew in a new live-action/CGI movie.

Following in the footsteps of upcoming double-pronged, sense-stunning cartoon-to-movie shockers Yogi Bear and The Smurfs , Myers would lend his pipes to Le Pew in a movie update of the beloved Merrie Melodies character.

Amorous French skunk Le Pew first appeared in 1945, and soon established his running gag – falling head over tail in love with a black cat who’s got a white stripe painted down her back. Naturally, his affections are not returned, leading to all sorts of scrapes.

According to Vulture , this new movie would feature Le Pew and his catty love interest as CGI characters, while everything else would be shot in live action.

So, at last count, there are now handfuls of dreadful CGI-infused kid films ( Scooby Doo, The Cat In The Hat, Garfield ), while all have failed to fully translate the charm and wit of their 2D forbears. Can Myers change that with smelly old Le Pew? We won't hold our breath.
