The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s cold war thriller Bridge Of Spies has arrived online, bringing us a glimpse at the first collaboration between the director and Tom Hanks in nearly a decade. Based on the real-life experiences of a New Yorker catapulted into the thick of it, Hanks stars as Brooklyn insurance lawyer James Donovan, who’s enlisted by the CIA to defend a captured Russian spy.
Things take a turn when a US fighter pilot is taken by the Soviets, and Donovan must rush to Berlin to negotiate a trade; the American pilot for the Russian. And that’s just the beginning of Donovan’s journey. Check out the first teaser trailer below:
Boasting an A-list director, star and writing team - the Coen brothers worked on the script - the film has a lot working in its favor and it shows. Historical features are undoubtedly Spielberg’s forte (Schindler’s List, Lincoln... err.. Jurassic Park?) and by the shape of this trailer a return to his favorite topic is absolutely fine by us.
Co-starring Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, and Alan Alda, Bridge of Spies opens in the UK on October 9 and the US on October 16.
