Three directors rumored for Tomb Raider reboot

Warner Bros.' long-gestating reboot of Tomb Raider might be edging closer to the big screen, as a report from The Tracking Board reveals a new shortlist of filmmakers rumored to direct Lara Croft's next adventure.

According to the site's sources, Warner, MGM, GK and Eidos are fast-tracking production, and their list of potential candidates to helm has been narrowed down to the following three: Zero Dark Thirty's Kathryn Bigelow, The Peacemaker's Mimi Leder and Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke.

The trio all boast impressive credits, and moreover have demonstrated their flair for handling action and character to strong effect. With these three filmmakers now in contention this knocks out the involvement of Tricia Brock (The Walking Dead). She was previously connected to the gig but has apparently decided to pass on the project.

Even if Bigelow, Leder and Hardwicke also drop out of the race, it's thought that the studio is determined to secure a "Michelle MacLaren-type" to take on the movie. Err, guys -- why not just get Michelle MacLaren?
