The as-yet untitled movie is set to follow on from the events of Prometheus 2, which will be written and directed by Scott.

Today’s news arrives weeks after Blomkamp posted concept artwork for a proposed sequel to his Instagram account. The content of those images included Sigourney Weaver as returning heroine, Ellen Ripley, kitted out in a space jockey-inspired helmet, along with Michael Biehn as Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Blomkamp also included a snarling xenomorph queen depicted in a jungle environment.

It’s not known whether either of the two aforementioned actors will reprise their roles, or if the new movie will be splinter away from the established Alien mythology. Either way, it’s an exciting day for fans of this well-loved franchise.
