Join The Arcanum

With the popularity of Buffy and the lads from Supernatural, it was only natural that film companies would keep searching for a way to cinematically tap that sweet vein of demon-besting fandom.

Gold Circle Films thinks it has the perfect project to try just that –snatching the movie rights to Thomas Wheeler’s fantasy action novel The Arcanum from where it has lingered in development hell at Miramax.

The book is set in 1919 and features a secret society boasting the age’s top occult investigators – Arthur Conan Doyle, Harry Houdini, HP Lovecraft and Marie Laveau, who fight the forces of evil invading New York City, including their nemesis, who happens to be a particularly nasty type with a penchant for murdering angels. "We see this as a potential franchise property," Gold Circle’s chief Paul Brooks blabbed to Variety.

Wheeler himself wrote the screenplay, but considering he also wrote the script for Supernova, we’re worried this’ll be less The Exorcist and more League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. But it’s now being dangled in front of directors, so if someone decent (cough…Guillermo del Toro…cough) could be attached, perhaps it stands a chance at glory.
