Sandra Bullock to voice villain in Despicable Me spin-off

Universal's Despicable Me spinoff, Minions , has added some A-list talent to its voice cast with the appointment of Sandra Bullock as the movie's chief antagonist.

Bullock will play a vampish sounding villain named Scarlet Overkill, who turns out to be hell-bent on world domination. Who'd have thought it, eh?

The film will establish the loveable minions as a race of critters who have been around forever, thwarting their masters with their persistent oafishness.

Picking up with the cuddly band in the 1960s, the story will see the minions attend a convention of supervillains at which they will seek to worm their way into the service of the aforementioned Ms Overkill. She in turn has plans of her own... to become the world's first female supervillain!

Directed by Kyle Bada and Pierre Coffin, Minions will open in the US on 19 December 2014. If you can't wait until then however, our little yellow friends will also be returning in Despicable Me 2 , which opens on 3 July 2013.
