Roberto Orci drops out of Power Rangers reboot

Lionsgate’s forthcoming Power Rangers reboot has suffered a bit of a blow, with Roberto Orci stepping down from the project in order to concentrate on Star Trek 3 .

Orci had initially been set to executive produce the reboot, and was expected to have a certain degree of input into the screenwriting process, with Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller currently drafting a script.

However, Orci has only just completed a first draft of the Star Trek 3 script, alongside co-writers Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, and will be focusing on that project for the foreseeable future.

Orci is also expected to direct the new film, which has yet to receive an official release date, but is expected to arrive in 2016 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Meanwhile, the Power Rangers movie is described as a modern reinvention of the popular TV show, and will open in the US on 22 July 2016.
