Dan Stevens joins Anne Hathaway in Colossal monster movie

With filming on Nacho Vigalondo's Colossal already underway in Vancouver, casting announcements are coming in thick and fast. Variety reports that The Guest star Dan Stevens is joining Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis and Tim Blake Nelson for the psychic creature feature.

The film tells the tale of a woman (Hathaway) who returns to her hometown after leaving her job and ex-boyfriend in New York City, only to find that she has become "somehow strangely connected" to a gigantic monster causing havoc on the other side of the world in Seoul. Stevens plays Hathaway's ex-boyfriend who dumped her back in NYC and now plans to win her back. Having to contend with the attention of a giant beastie means it might require more than a box of choccies and a bunch of roses.

Apart from that brief outline there's still very little known about the movie. Early on in development the movie underwent a legal tussle with Toho, the creators of Godzilla, who filed a copyright lawsuit against the studio, citing Vigalondo's marketing practices (he used unauthorized Godzilla images when pitching the movie at Cannes). Voltage Pictures has since smoothed things over, and the movie is expected to open in 2016.
