Michael Fassbender will play a rock star in Frank

Michael Fassbender will play the leader of a pop band in Frank , a musical comedy developed by Film4.

The Fass adds the project to a heaving slate, which includes 12 Years A Slave , The Counselor , Jane Got A Gun and First Class sequel X-Men: Days Of Future Past .

Domhnall Gleeson will co-star as a naïve musician who joins the band. The son of Brendan, Gleeson played a Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise , but made has since been making a name for himself in some diverse projects, two of which ( Dredd and Anna Karenina ) are out this week.

Frank ’s key selling point is no doubt going to be Fassbender’s impressive singing voice (opens in new tab) .

Here’s what the press release had to say:

“Frank is a comedy about a young wannabe musician, Jon (Gleeson), who discovers he's bitten off more than he can chew when he joins an eccentric pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Fassbender).

Frank will shoot in late 2012.
