Jumanji reboot snags Con Air writer Scott Rosenberg

Sony's Jumanji remake has been in the pipeline for several years now, but with a firm 2016 release date on the calendar, it now looks as though the studio plans to fast-track the movie, as Deadline reports that Scott Rosenberg is attached to pen the latest draft of the script.

Rosenberg -- whose previous credits include Gone In Sixty Seconds, Con Air and High Fidelity -- will be punching up the screenplay, taking the reins on an earlier draft penned by Zack Helm. In addition, Jeff Pinker, whose work on Alias, Fringe and Lost make him a dab hand at alternate worlds, will bring his experience to the scriptwriting process as a consultant.

The film is set to take its cues from Chris Van Allburg's original source novel, as opposed to directly rebooting the 1995 flick, which starred Robin Williams. Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler are producing the film that's described by the outlet as a "re-imagination" of the book. While we know very little else, it's safe to assume that it's going to revolve around a mystical jungle-set board game that comes to life. Jumanji is scheduled to open December 25, 2016.
