David Fincher lines up thriller adaptation for next project

David Fincher looks to have found his next directing project, with Variety reporting that he’s in talks to film an adaptation of Gone Girl .

The news will be slightly disappointing for fans who were hoping that he’d follow-up his adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo with the next two entries in the Millennium trilogy.

But it’s hard to feel too disappointed when you’re faced with the prospect of a new thriller from Fincher.

Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl centres on a woman whose disappearance coincides with her fifth wedding anniversary. Reese Witherspoon is producing, but there’s no news yet on whether she’s eyeing a role for herself.

According to Variety ’s report, Fincher is still attached to Tattoo sequel The Girl Who Played With Fire (although it’s waiting for a script from über-busy screenwriter Steve Zaillian) and Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea re-do (which has yet to be greenlit).

Looks like Gone Girl could plug a gap in Fincher’s schedule in the meantime.

As with any Fincher flick, we’ll keep a close eye on this one.
