Go ape for The Legend Of Tarzan teaser trailer

If you like your movie heroes buff, shirtless and wearing only a loincloth then look no further: the first trailer for The Legend of Tarzan is here. The film hails from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows helmer David Yates whose adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' story appears laced with a darker tone than Tarzan's previous cinematic outings. And that's not the only difference.

Things don't start where they normally do with the King of the Jungle, instead the film begins in Victorian London. Ten years after leaving the jungle, Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgard) now goes by the name Lord Greystroke and lives a respectable lifestyle with his wife Jane (Margot Robbie). Of course Tarzan movies require a certain adventurous element and before long he's called back to this former stomping ground by a nefarious villain (Christoph Waltz).

"He was thought to be an evil spirit. A ghost in the trees. No man ever started with less…" says Robbie's Jane. If this were another origin tale, that might be an observation toward Tarzan's lack of clothes. However, this teaser appears to be pushing a different angle - his desire to return home after acclimatising to modern society - which bodes well for such a well-known fable. Co-starring Samuel L. Jackson, John Hurt and Djimon Hounsou, The Legend of Tarzan opens in the US on July 1, 2016 and the UK on July 8.
