Despite calling the makeup process "excruciating," Jim Carrey is returning to The Grinch, 26 years later
Jim Carrey is returning as the Grinch
In surprising news, Jim Carrey is returning as the Grinch, 26 years after the original movie.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Carrey is in talks to come back to his role, and Ron Howard will be back to direct the sequel, too.
This is especially surprising because Carrey has made no secret of how difficult he found the makeup process for the Christmas movie.
"Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch," Carrey previously told ComicBook.com, when asked which of his roles he'd like to play again. "The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. 'It's for the kids. It's for the kids. It's for the kids.' And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world."
How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of the most beloved holiday movies of all time, so no doubt the sequel will prove popular. However, further details are under wraps for now.
Carrey will soon return as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. "And that's a wrap on SonicMovie4," director Jeff Fowler previously shared on social media. "On behalf of this amazing cast/crew, we have filmed the BEST Sonic Movie yet and can't wait to share."
There's no news yet on when the Grinch sequel might arrive. Until then, check out our guide to all the upcoming movies worth getting excited about.
